Our Story: A Small Church

with a Big Heart

Nestled tightly in the arms of the Oak Ridge and Summerfield communities, Moravia was founded in 1896. What began as the Sandy Plains Sunday School became a gathering place for worship, healing, and living as a community.

Today, Moravia Moravian Church continues its mission of fulfilling Christ’s call to love God, live in community, and serve our neighbor. And ALL are welcome.

We take every opportunity to gather and serve together through worship, Sunday School, Bible Study, making chicken pies, participating in local outreach, multiple monthly meals, craft nights, and more.

Our worship is traditional and liturgical, often reading and singing from the Moravian Book of Worship, centered around scripture and how God speaks to us now. However, there are opportunities to fellowship, pray for one another, laugh, and interact in worship as well!

The Current church building held it’s first worship service on Christmas Eve in 1964 for out traditional Lovefeast. The church expanded in 2003 recognizing needs for extra space, creating a new kitchen and a fellowship space called the “Hearthside Room.”
